Orientation

Start Here: choosing among three care paths

This page helps you name the season you are in. It does not replace the Assisted Living, Memory Care, or Respite pages—it points you toward the right conversation.

Please confirm: Current programming, eligibility, and availability for each path should be verified by calling (573) 873-0761. Public listings may not show every care path discussed here.

Three starting points

Assisted Living may fit when a person benefits from help with daily tasks, meals, medication routines, and a more consistent environment, while still wanting personal space and a residential rhythm.

Memory Care may fit when cognitive changes, safety, orientation, or supervision needs suggest a setting designed with familiarity, cueing, and calmer structure—always subject to assessment and confirmation of what Hillcrest can support.

Respite may fit when the need is short-term: caregiver relief, post-hospital transition, family travel, or a trial stay to experience the setting without committing to a long-term move on day one.

A person may move between seasons over time. You do not have to pretend you already know the final answer.

How to use this site

  1. Skim the three path pages for language that matches your situation.
  2. Read Everyday Life for meals, routines, and personal space themes.
  3. Review Pricing as sample only until an official rate sheet is confirmed.
  4. Open Visit for tour tips and directory resources.
  5. Use FAQ for common questions, then call with anything unanswered.

What to bring to the first conversation

  • Medication list and recent clinic notes if available
  • Description of a typical day and sleep patterns
  • Mobility, fall, or nutrition concerns
  • What the person still enjoys
  • Non-negotiables: location, budget range, pets, visit frequency
  • Whether a short respite stay would help everyone breathe
